EllRay is part of a third-grade class that is anxious about a school-wide talent show to be held next Friday. That and another event on the same day as the talent show cause the class to work as a team together. They decide what talent acts will go to tryouts, and they come up with a gift idea for their teacher’s wedding shower. EllRay shows leadership skills in both areas.

At least five students must try out for the talent show from his class. EllRay ends up being one of them. What talent does EllRay have? After purchasing a very used magic kit at a yard sale, EllRay tries his hand at some simple magical illusions at the tryouts. Much to his amazement, EllRay gets selected to be part of the show but decides to do everything he can to get out of performing on Friday. Is he successful? With a last-minute delivery by FedEx and rehearsals with Dad, EllRay goes on to give a flawless performance. And the creative hand-made gift for the teacher? She loves it, flashing her special look to each class member as she reads what they wrote. EllRay marvels at it all, “Magic all over the place!”
